Taco night

Some days things just work out differently from what you plan.
Paul called me a few minutes ago and said his sister is having taco night at her house tonight. Score! This means I don't have to cook!
While I'm not to thrilled with not being able to go home right after work at least I don't have to cook. Tacos sound really good tonight too.
Now i know what you are thinking... "what's so great about tacos?"
Well for starters they don't use regular taco shells. They use corn tortillas cooked in crisco until they get crispy and then you put a slice of cheese on it for just a few seconds till it melts.
We also dice up sliced pickles and put those on tocos along with refried beans. And while I don't eat guacamole my kids love to eat it with their tacos too.

So I planned on going home but I'll make a pit stop for tacos first.

So much in such a short amount of time

So where to begin....
Friday night's Wild About Wine at the zoo went great. A cold front came in while we were there so it got a little chilly but it was so nice anyway. The food was great and the wine was good too. Then we got the boys and headed home for an early bedtime.
Saturday was a very busy day. Melissa's shower went FANTASTIC! These are only the pics I took with my phone. I completely forgot to take my camera but Melissa brought hers so she will email me those pictures when she can. In those you will see that Andrew is in every one of them. He thought she just couldn't open her gifts without his help. (austin didn't care about anything other than cake and his trains so he's not in many of them)
Andrew was so funny though, she would open a gift and you would hear him say things like, " that's so precious, or it's so beautiful!" And then he would try to remember the name of who gave the gift and say thank you to the group mostly, he didn't really know who that person actually was. It was funny.
As you can see the cake turned out well, not as block like as I wanted but it still came out and tasted great. Melissa had most of the bottom half to take home with her, she said she liked cake.
After the shower was over Mom, Melissa and I headed to my grandma's house to practice our song. Sunday i was so proud of all of us, I think we did great considering we hadn't sung together in 8 years. I actually saw many tears from some of the people in the aduience that have known us our whole lives and singing careers. They may have been crying because it was bad and they just lied to us and said it was good, who knows...
Today i barely have a voice left at all, we practiced a bunch on saturday.
That's all for the moment, I will post the other pictures when I get them.

Wild about Wine

We are going to the zoo tonight for their 2nd annual Wild About Wild celebration.
I worked at the zoo last year for a while and help with it last year and Paul and I had a blast.
It's good food and you go from booth to booth and try different wines paired with foods, and there is good entertainment too. This will be our date night tonight.
It's only from 7 to 9...

Austin is feeling better so both boys will go to grandma's house for a few hours. I think It's just his back teeth coming in because he's chewing on his plug(passifier) like crazy. (and spare the comments on the boy still using one please, i know...)

Tomorrow is Sussa's shower and i can't wait to see how her cake turns out! I'll post plent of pictures come monday!

Austin is stumpy today

My poor Baby Austin is stumpy today. Stumpy is the word we use when we don't feel good. It's short and frumpy put together so it comes out stumpy.
He has a low grade fever not enough to be too worried about but he is just really lethargic.
Austin is the kid that could be really sick but you'd never know it because he's still running around like a wild indian. But today he just wanted to lay in his bed and watch his Thomas and the Magic train movie. When I left for work he was sound asleep.
I called his doctor and they said he may be getting his back mollars or growing and sometimes that could do this to kids. Just to keep an eye on him to see if he gets any other symtoms.

Just pray that my baby feels better soon would ya?

Sometimes you have to give your mother a little credit ;)

I have to give my mother some credit for a few things today.

First, she gave me this recipe a while back for a corn salsa. I belive she got it from somewhere else but she made it for us when we were in SA last and it's addicting. Today at work we had to bring something to share for a birthday. I'm not much of a sweet eater so stuff like this I really enjoy, plus it has tomatos or panatos as my kids call them so that makes it even better. Well I brought it to work today and got lots of praise from all the ladies here that are on diets becasue it stays within their diet. (what's a diet?)

Well i thought i would pass along this recipe for those who read this to enjoy too!

Corn Salsa

1 lrg can corn
2 cans petite diced tomatoes
1 can black beans
1 large avocado diced
1 can rotel (hot, regular or mild. Whichever you prefer)
1 tablespoon finely chopped shallots
1 small tablespoon finely chopped cilantro
½ cup zesty Italian dressing

Drain all your cans and rinse the corn and beans.

For a smaller portion just substitute for 1 regular can corn
1 can of tomatoes
A little less Italian dressing

Enjoy!

Also, mom gave me this book to read this past weekend and she said it was fantastic. I've heard about it from tv and a few people who have read it. I must say I can't put it down. It makes you think, and it messes with your head a little. I'm only half way through it so we'll see how i feel about it when i'm done. I highly recommend everyone reading this. i don't want to say too much about it because i don't want you to think I'm crazy and not read it. But go out and buy this book! like my mom said, don't put it down how tough it gets, just keep reading!
Good Job mom!

what a week/weekend

Well last week was spring break for Andrew and he was so happy not having to get up early, or go to bed early either. Really though I don't know how he can sleep so late. Paul and I weren't able to take off for any days of it but i didn't go in until 1pm for a few days so he enjoyed me being at home with him. Austin liked having someone to play with/ pester/beat up. They got to go to Robin's house which they haven't done in a while and they really liked that.
This weekend my family came down. Oh, the jedi mind powers Sussa has over Andrew! He was so glad to see her, it made his spring break perfect i think. And she's coming this weekend too for her shower so he is just beside himself with excitment. he is counting down the days until he gets to see her again.
Austin is a PawPaw's boy. He loved to be held by him and wanted to sit in his lap the whole time he was here. At lunch on sunday we were about 2 hours past his nap time and he would only sit quietly in PawPaws lap. He even ate some of his fish, then he snuggled up to Nanna and fell asleep. We all went home and took a good nap after that.
Well the pictures of the boys are them with hats on. They both love hats!
Oh, and set ur DVR'S!! This sunday my mom, Sussa and I are singing infron of First Baptist Church. We all grew up going there and that is were Sussa's shower will be saturday but some how mom talked us into singing again. We haven't sung together in maybe close to 10 years. I guess yo could say this is for old times sake. All i know is that I'm gonna need some xanax and maybe a few shots of taquila.... I'm scared out of my mind! i don't even sing in my church choir i go to now! So set your DVR'S for Sunday on channel 4 or 720 if you get HD at 11am... let's hope we don't screw this up!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA ASHLEY!!!

Today is my grandma's birthday! I think she is 81 years old today. Although you would never be able to tell because she looks great and is in better shape than most of us. She has a great social life and lots of friends and family who loves her!

Just so you know, her mother lived to be almost 101 and lived by herself until she was 98. Her mind was sharp until she died. I'm sure grandma will live to be that age and just as wonderful and smart too.

So Happy Birthday to a wonderful Grandma!

Leigh Ann

p.s. I'm taking grandma out to eat to celebrate. Just the two of us! Paul is gonna pick up the kids and let me have a great dinner with my grandma.

We got told... by our 5 year old

Last night Paul was acting silly and said he was the boss of our house. I threw my head back and laughed that kinda evil laughter laugh. Andrew looked at him like his head was on backwards.
So Paul says, "Andrew, whose the boss around this house?"
I tell him, "buddy we all know that mommy is the boss of this house!"
After Andrew looks at me like my head is on wrong too he says. "We're a team! That's what being a family means, we work together. You are my mom and dad so I have to listen and do what you say but we are a team."

Ummmm... Wow! We both didn't expect that answer. That shut us up!
He was right though, that's how families work, or should work. We tell him on saturdays when we are cleaning that we all have to do our part. We all make the messes together during the week so we all have to work together cleaning it up. even Austin helps with the vacuuming.
We told him that he was right and he is one of the two best boys on the planet!
Then he says, "I know, now I'm going to play my game, I have 20 minutes left to play."
We got told!

Also....
I'm slightly worried about Austin and his phase of only consuming dairy products.
When he was a baby he had to be on Nutramagin formula, which isnt even soy formula. He had a pretty bad milk allergy. Now he will only eat something if it has cheese on it. He lives on yogurt, cheese(lots and all kinds) and milk. It's hard to get him to eat anything else. If you give him a snack he wants string cheese and he will eat 5 slices of cheese a day if you let him. We put lunch meat with it to get some protein in him. At least it's healthy I guess?

I can be taught!

Being that my computer at home has taken a permenant vacation on me i have been doing anything online related here at work on my free time.

So i cant really do anything with my ditigtal camera either. BUT!!!

I take a ton of pictures and videos with my phone and we send them to either Sussa or daddy(paul). So i figured I could email the pictures from my phone to my email and then copy and paste them to my blog. They are a little fuzzy but you get the idea.

So the pictures so far of the kids are when we went to the livestock show. Austin loved seeing the 4 wheelers, they go in his catagory of tractors and trains. So he had a blast.

Now that I've figured the picture stuff out i can show off my good lookin boys!

Oh, and here's a picture of my haircut.

I cut off 3 inches and died it darker with some honey auburn highlights in it. Gotta cover those grey hairs!

i think i figured out pictures...maybe

Look out! crazy driver!!!

I'm gonna drag the person responsible for daylight savings time behind my car!

I HATE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!!! HATE IT!!!

I am a person who loves sleep! always have, always will! And when you take an hour away from me it mess with my whole body clock.

And trying to get Andrew up and hour early for school when he went to sleep an hour late he's just as mean and grumpy as me.... two pees in a pod we are

My whole week has just been thrown all out of wack. Having two sick kids this weekend by myself(Paul had to work the past 8 days/nights) and getting the kids and myself up early to get us where we need to be has been tough. Us and punctuality have not been on the same page this week.

It's sad when your boss pats you on the head and says it's been a bad week...

AS GOD AS MY WITNESS NEXT WEEK WILL BE BETTER!!!

Sussa's cake!

I had this really great idea for my sister's cake for her shower down here on the 28th of march.
I have been watching the Food Network Channel way too much and I love the shows where groups compete for money and the make cakes or desserts or stuff. Some of the things these people come up with are awsome. I really should have gone to culinary school before I had kids. I'm a great cook and very creative in the kitchen. I also want to be on Hell's Kitchen! I could so take that show!!
Anyway, back to the cake...

It's going to be two baby blocks stacked on top of each other. The top one will be a half turn to the side from the bottom one. So it doesn't look like one extra tall block. the icing will be buttercream, I was going to do fondant but it was more expensive and the lady who makes the cakes said she could make them look more realistic if i went with icing. The color of the blocks will be green, not lime green or pastel green but in between those colors. On the edges of the outside of the blocks will be boardered in white.
The front of the top block will have a P on it in purple for Poppy and on the bottom block around it will spell out the rest of Poppy. The sides on top that don't have letters on it will have poppy flowers drawn on them in purple too. And then on the very top in yellow will say "Congradulations Melissa and Jonathan" will little purple poppy flowers around it.

Oh, the flavors of the cakes! the top block will be chocolate with chocolate frosting in the middle and the bottom block will be red velvet with cream cheese icing in the middle. Sussa's Favorite!

We won't say how much it cost me for that but it will be worth every penny!
I think it will make a great center piece until it's eaten and then it should make for lots of tasty cake!

We're sick and running out of injuries

We have been wonderful hosts this past weekend to the stomach flu. It came on friday morning and has visited with all of us and still continues to wear out it's welcome as of today. It started with Andrew and I and then got Austin and now has a hold of Paul. While he was working this past weekend we stayed at home cleaning up more poop and vomit than any normal person could stomach, and at times i didn't stomach it so well. You know it's bad when the first thing out of Austin when he woke up was to say he was stinky and peew. This was not going to be an easy weekend.
OOOOHHH... just got a message from Paul that Austin pooped all over him and the floor(through the diaper he has on) and Andrew accidently stepped in it and threw up all over the floor. Darn shame i'm at work huh!

So we were stuck inside the house from friday through the weekend. Poor kids had cabin feever so bad. I finally got all the mess cleaned up out of Austin's bed from the morning he woke up covered from head to toe in poop. A mess you really just wanna burn. But I had puppy and pillow cleaned up and Austin had them both by the back door saying "I go, I go now!" Which means get me out of this house right now!

I decided we should at least go for a walk for even just a little bit. Should anyone need to puke there is always grass that needs to be furtilized and should someone poop, well at least there is fresh air till we could get home. We even took the dog with us.

Andrew was riding his bike(that he is so ready for the training wheels to come off) and I pulled Austin and his Ucy in the wagon. We actually went pretty far and as we were headed back in the direction of home Andrew tells me. "Mom we have gone very far and I'm running out of injury."

"What?" i ask

"I'm really tired and running very low on injury, I could use some gatorade."

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Those words were so right in his little head but not the way it was supposed to come out.

I told him "you need energy not injury". He says, "which one will get me the gatorade?"

I said "energy will get you the gatorade". he says "well that works, just so long as i can get some of that." Okay buddy.

Silly kid, but all the while we were feeling bad and under the weather both of those boys found ways to brighten the day. Yes we drove each other nuts but we also has some fun laughs.

We played video games and dominos and memory games and ate stuff that was easy on our tummies with lots of sprite and gatorade. Even though we were sick somehow it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be.

update:
Last night poor little Austin put himself to sleep at 7:30pm. We thought he was playing in his room and went in to check on him and there he was curled up on his bed with his pillow and puppy sound asleep with his lights and tv on. Poor guy had a long day of the poops.
Cutest little poopy monster you ever did see!

Leave it to my family!

Growing up and being the girl that broke her arm not once, or twice but count em' 3 times!
So in my family we just had a long standing bill with Detar Hospital. Someone in my family was always there. Let me see if I can get the list of family members to accidents.

Dad- broke his knee playing basketball and had to have surgery.
Mom- knee replacement and I think multiple concussions. One of which I know was my fault!
Brother- broke his nose twice.
Sister- many stiches in her head! Lots of falling and cutting her head open and I'm pretty sure most of those were my fault too, I played to rough.

And...
ME- stiches in my chin, 3 times breaking the elbow, and as of two months ago a broken nose and concussion due to a car accident.

See what i mean? We paid the electric bill for that place. When doctors and nurses become family you should worry.

Well today I call to talk to my mom and she apparently hit her head yesterday and now is home with yet another concussion. Poor thing!

And then as I had just gotten out of the shower and my cell phone rings. It's Andrew's teacher... he has fallen off the monkey bars and hurt his left arm and I needed to come pick him up and take him home for the day.
Oh Man!!! Yup, my kid is just as big a clutz as his momma and Nanna(sorry but it's true)!
Well i ask her if it's swollen, does it look like he broke it? Can he pin point where it's hurt or is it generalized? and that was a NO

I go to school anyway to pick him up because it's their rules but other than a bruse he will be fine. He is now resting comfortably at his grandparents house most likely being catered to by his Mammaw. Ahh, the life of a slightly injured boy.

Ode to my Madlen ;)

Well my saturday turned out far better than i could have ever expected!

On my way to work saturday morning I got a call from one of my best friends in the whole world and she informed me she was coming to see me. She lives in san Marcos but we have been friends since 2nd grade and even though we live far enough from each other that we don't get to see all that much of each other. But when we do get to hang out it feels like we just pick up where we left off. She has rememebered my kids every birthday and still brings presents for Christmas for them.

Well anyway back to saturday. My Madlen went with me to take the kids to the livestock show, something that would have been so much harder doing on my own. And she helped push the stroller or carry one of the kids. She helped with Andrew came out of a ride and could see me and he was crying and she rushed over to him and as soon as he saw her he was just fine.
She was more help than I deserved and so much fun too. My kids Love "Miss Madlen"!

And just when I thought the day couldn't get any better her mom, who practically raised me offered to babysit my kids for the evening in exchange for some cotton candy. So Madlen and I were able to go out on our own for a ladies night. It was the perfect ending to a great day!

Thank you Madlen for such a fantastic day and even better evening! I hope we will be those old best friends later that still go out looking for trouble! hehehe.... and what trouble we could get into!
